At Hamilton, Wilson & Hendrickson, we strive to offer the highest quality in orthodontics in and around the Topeka and Lawrence, KS areas. We offer many different types of braces and Invisalign in order to treat our patients’ every orthodontic need. If you’re a child, teenager, or even adult, who is facing the possibility of orthodontic treatment, summer is a better time than ever to proceed down that path. Allow us to give you a few reasons as to why summer vacation is a perfect time for a child or teenager to receive orthodontic treatment.

There’s Time to Adjust to Braces

For the first week or so, there may be some inconveniences or discomfort while getting adjusted to wearing braces. While it’s not anything to be too concerned about, it’s always best to be able to spend this time at home, relaxing or doing something fun instead of stressing over schoolwork. Summer allows a perfect opportunity to keep your mind distracted. If any problems arise with the orthodontic treatment, the free time is there to adjust.

More Free Time to Schedule Appointments

During the school year, there’s usually only a small window of opportunity after the school day is over where an appointment can be scheduled. Because school’s out in the summer, there’s much more flexibility and availability. This is especially helpful if a patient needs to come in for additional appointments after orthodontic treatment has started. This also means that school days won’t have to be missed in order to schedule appointments.

It’s Easier to Adjust Eating Habits

When wearing braces, there are certain foods to avoid for the damage they can do to brackets and wires. While school is in session, there isn’t always the freedom and time to intelligently pick what’s best to eat. School lunches don’t always provide braces-friendly foods and the hectic scheduling sometimes doesn’t allow for the time to come up with an alternative. Summer vacation provides an easier time to adjust and get used to what foods you can and can’t eat.
